In the senior year, six credits of thesis research are required. This course provides advice and guidance in the development and implementation of a thesis project. Students should plan ahead carefully, because these courses may not be offered in both fall and spring semesters. Timing of specific thesis progress reports is at the discretion of the student’s advisor and the student’s Honors Thesis Committee, and should be consistent with the approved thesis proposal, as described above. The work was cutting edge; sometimes, she said, it went according to plan, and sometimes it did not.
The DUR application must be accompanied by a letter of support from the project mentor. It also does not cover the cost of copying your thesis. During their junior year, students must typically complete credits of Honors requirements in their home colleges or schools designed to help them develop their projects and prepare for research. Since Honors College students complete a thesis, practicum or creative project in their senior year, this program in particular invites students to apply who need monetary assistance to complete or prepare for these projects. Completing and Defending Honors Theses
Students may find useful information about thfsis, formatting, and defending the thesis in this document. As soon as you have a rough idea of the area your thesis will cover, you should ask your academic advisor for help in finding a thesis advisor.
Thesis Defense requirements Students must give some public oral presentation of the thesis, within two weeks following the initial hclo submission, and no later than April 15 of the senior year. The table also indicates which semester of the junior year each college would prefer their students to take the course. At least 3 credits of focused and customized pre-thesis work in the form of a readings and research project. A faculty mentor from outside the department in which the thesis was completed, who will serve as chair of the committee. As soon as possible in September of your senior year, give a copy of ghesis draft of the proposal to your advisor.
Thesiss due dates are published every year; usually the due date is the second Friday in September of the senior year. Depending on the major course of study, CNHS students may find mentors during the sophomore year or the beginning of the junior year.
During the fall of the junior year, students take NHHonors Seminar. The only remaining function of the Committee is to certify to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences that the student’s thesis has been successfully completed. Awards much be spent by June 30th of the academic year in which funds are granted. CALS thessis planning to study abroad in the spring of their junior year and thus unable to take CALS during that semester must instead take HONthe thesis preparation course offered by the Honors College, in the fall of the junior year.
Credits are usually divided evenly between the fall and spring semesters of the senior year. The bulk of the work on a College Honors thesis is carried out in consultation with the student’s thesis supervisor, although, members of the advisory committee may wish to be involved as well.
At an even more general level, we could say that an Honors Thesis is an opportunity to work closely with a faculty member on research that brings to a conclusion your undergraduate experience. Applicants must provide a brief written justification for the budget they have developed, including supporting statements addressing the nature and thesi of the requested supplies as they relate to the project objectives and methodology.
Students studying abroad for their entire junior year should either take the HEC course in the spring of their sophomore year or arrange with approval from the CAS Dean’s Office to complete an HEC-type project as part of their junior year study abroad. Additional thesis presentation requirements Students are encouraged to present their work at the Student Research Conference, held in the Davis Center in the spring. In such a case, students should be in touch with the FOUR.
The thesiss each student prepares in this course does not necessarily conform to the exact proposal requirements for their home school or college.
Students then spend several weeks working through the process of formulating a proposal finding an advisor, identifying a research question, working on a literature reviewand then meet theais in one session after mid-semester to participate in an organized peer review of the documents each student will produce, the Thesis Pre-Proposal Memorandum.
