Research within the United States must be site-specific e. Fellows must be willing to sssrc two workshops sponsored by the SSRC each year that are intended to help early-career faculty engage in scholarly reflections, research and writing. Facilitators at the workshops help strengthen the capacity of fellows for scholarly diasertation, including academic publications. The fellowship provides funding for nine to twelve months of continuous dissertation research outside of the United States.

The International Dissertation Research Fellowship is accepting applications. Proposals should display a thorough knowledge of the major concepts, theories, and methods in the applicant’s discipline and in other related fields, as well as a bibliography relevant to the research. Eligibility will be at the discretion of the IDRF program, depending on completed research time and funding.

Seventy fellowships are awarded annually. As of Maythe program prioritizes applicants holding a faculty position or demonstrating a durable commitment to higher education in Africa, but does not restrict eligibility to such individuals. We anticipate awarding dissertatiln to 45 fellowships in total across all three categories each year. Please note that the IDRF program supports research only and may not be used for dissertation write-up.

The fellowships support dissertation research on peace, security, and development topics. The IDRF program will not support study at foreign universities, conference participation, or dissertation write-up.
