In doing this, men may become aggressive and violent to look powerful. It is interesting to trace it back and explore where these rules originated. Kimmel writes this story to provide insight as to why guys act they way they do, he describes that young boys are taught from a very young age how to act by their peers. Men may lash out instead of restraining themselves and confront violence with violence rather than show emotion or softness.
I’ve read this same article and I really enjoyed your interpretation of it. Kimmel explains that guys actions are not determined by the fact that men have an XY chromosome but because they feel the peer pressure by other men. Violence among boys is common when they are trying to position themselves socially. The author, Kimmel, does not use any faulty reasoning within this essay because he backs everything up with personal experiences that he and others have had. Kimmels exigence explains the negitive effects of this “guy code” has on men. Men must live up to the American standard of masculinity in order to fit in and not yoes shunned by society.
